5 rules for internet etiquette
1. Act as a person
2. Don't be a bully online.
3. Don't ever threaten someone.
4. Treat people online as you would want them to treat you.
5. Don't be a complete annoyance to everyone on a blog or somewhere where other people can look at your writing.
The atricle, At Issue, was explaining the importance of being "nice and respectful" on the internet. Even though people think that just because it doesn't show there face people are not going to be able to see them. That is wrong because if there was something bad enough that caused the police or some other federal agents to be put into it they could track you down.
7 netiquettes
1. Behave as though you are communicating in person- When communicating with someone online, act as if you are talking to that person face to face. I think that this makes since because you want to ALWAYS be yourself.
2. Remember that your words are open to interpretation- If you post jokes, sarcasm, or other attempts at humor, do not be surprised if someone is offended. Word your postings clearly and carefully. If you are saying something stupid in a post people have the right to say negative things to you because that is your fault for posting such stupidness. :)
3. Do not "shout" online- Typing in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS is like shouting and is considered rude. I don't entirely agree with is rule because sometimes using capital letters it CATCHES people's attention.
4. Do not "flame" other users- in "net-speak," a flame is a posting that contains insults or other derogatory content. Flamers can be shut out of listservs and chat rooms , and other users can block a flamer's messages. I agree with this because you should never insult someone and especially not on the internet.
5. Do not send spam- Spam is the online equivalent of junk mail- univited messages, usually of a commercial nature. Most ISPs have strict spam policies. If you are caught distributing univited messages to multiple recipients, your ISP may cancle your account. I agree with this because who wants to read a bunch on nonsense?
6. Do not distribute copyrighted material- Usenet newsgroups and many private Web pages are filled with copyrighted and trademarked text and graphics, posted without the owner's permission. Do not think that text or images are "in the public domain" because you found them on the Internet. Copyrights still apply. I believe that this is correct because people spent there time to do whatever they are doing and you just can't take there work.
7. Do not be a coward- as a general rule, you should never conceal your identity on the Internet. If you choose to use a screen name, do not hide behind it to misbehave. I agree with this post. Just because you are behind a screen-name does not make you above the law. If you are caught doing something bad enough you can get into trouble with the law.
I believe netiquette is important because without that people would act totally absurd and inhumane.
